On two albums released during her tenure in Los Angeles — 2009′s “It’s Spooky to Be Young” and 2005′s “Items You Won’t Find Elsewhere” — songwriter Meredith Meyer proved adept at airy, dreamy pop confessionals. A year ago, the Oklahoma native forsook L.A. to take up residence in New York, and life in the concrete jungle must be making her restless. Meyer’s new song “Target Practice,” comes from her new project Young Unknowns, who will release their debut EP in May. The EP was recorded with L.A.-based producer Bill Racine and features Ethan Walter and Bryan Percival on bass and Matt Arbeiter on drums. “Target Practice,” which was also appropriated by German trance artist Dennis Sheperd for his 2011 album, sounds almost as if it could have come from the U.K. in the late ’80s or early ’90s. Meredith has been in the studio with her new project, Young Unknowns, recording with Bill Racine again at his new studio in Los Angeles.  The as-yet-unnamed 5 song EP features Meyer on guitar, keys, and vocals, with Matt Arbeiter on drums, and Ethan Walter and Bryan Percivall on bass.

The album is currently being mixed and features a different version of the single “Target Practice,” the dance/ EDM version of which was released in September with German DJ/ producer Dennis Sheperd on High Contrast recordings (available on iTunes).

“My Solo,” off Meredith’s debut album Items You Won’t Find Elsewhere, is featured in the independent film Good Day For It, written by Nick Stagliano and James C. Wolf and directed by Nick Stagliano. The western-themed drama features Robert Patrick, Hal Holbrook, Lance Henriksen, Samantha Mathis, Robert Englund, Mika Boorem, and features a stunning score by Nashville artist Matthew Ryan.

Robert Patrick delivers a poignant performance as Luke Cain, a man forced to abandon his wife and daughter years earlier must risk his life to settle an old score and reunite his family.

Brian Kehew (Fiona Apple, AIR, Eleni Mandell) produced “My Solo” at his own OFR studio in North Hollywood, California. The song is available on iTunes or by purchasing the CD on the MUSIC page.

Meredith is hitting the road with the Brooklyn band backwords , adding her flair on keyboards and vocals. The band’s latest release, “Quilt”, has been gaining local acclaim in NYC, with the band just finishing a residency at The Cake Shop.

backwords will be doing approx. 20 dates from NY to Austin, TX and back, including the Foburg Festival in New Orleans with The Hood Internet and Toro Y Moi.
