About…
Meredith Meyer was born and raised in Oklahoma City, OK. After leaving home at a young age and “traveling around aimlessly for a bit,” she came to Los Angeles in her early years. Her love for music “sometimes surpassing all practicality,” she spent her time delving into singing and writing for a few local bands and projects. She recorded her first solo album Items You Won’t Find Elsewhere with Brian Kehew (AIR, Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, Moog Cookbook), which she released independently. She spent the next two years writing new songs, paying bills working multiple jobs, playing numerous Los Angeles venues, and searching for the next creative avenue for her music. She was introduced to Bill Racine via a few friends from Oklahoma, and upon meeting him felt like it would be a creative journey with good results. Her intuition proved to be correct as she ventured to Chicago to record the album at Bill’s then Pilsen Sound Studios, which was set in an old spice factory loft overlooking the Chicago river. Of It’s Spooky To Be Young, Meredith states the album “is about finding innocence and magic despite weird times.”
Bill Racine has been known for his work with Rogue Wave (Sub Pop), Mates of State (Barsuk/ Moshi Moshi), Phantom Planet’s live CD and DVD, Mercury Rev offshoots Hopewell (Tee Pee/Zeal), The Silent League (Something In Construction) and Odiorne, and Ryan Laurie (who contributed guitar to the Lips' Yoshimi). He produced, recorded and mixed various songs for NYC’s Levy (One Little Indian). He returned to Tarbox to record new tracks with Mark Gardener (of Ride fame) and Goldrush for These Beautiful Ghosts (UFO). He co-produced and recorded the final album by The Comas (Vagrant). Recently Bill has worked with teen rockers Wild Youth, Austin/ Houston/ New Zealand’s Honey Claws, Detroit’s The Hard Lessons, Rogue Wave offshoots Golden Gram, Upstate New York’s Jesse Stiles, and New York’s brilliant Zambri.
The album features Meredith on vocals, guitar, chimes and keyboards, along with Andrew Carter (Karin Tatoyan) on cello, and Tom Dunne (Maria McKee) on drums, with Racine providing bass and additional programming & musical facets. New to the lineup is Vic Artur Ruiz (Last American Buffalo) on bass and keyboards. Charles Mansfield guests on lead guitar on “Ain’t It Divine.” Erin Donnelly plays the quartz singing bowl on “Believe.” All songs on the album were written by Meyer except for “The Mystery Waltz,” which was co-written with composer Rolfe Kent.
